Hello,I have been grooming pets since 1976....over years! I graduated from high school in 1975 and wanted to go to college to earn a Veterinarian Degree. When I consulted my Veterinarian about this, he told me that it was hard for a women to get into Vet School at the time. He then told me I should think about a grooming job as I had poodles at the time. I took him up on it and got a job in a grooming shop where they taught me all of the basics about dog grooming. My love and perseverance for the grooming field made me yearn for more knowledge. I learned more about the breeds that needed haircuts by going to dog shows to see more breeds and how they should look when groomed correctly. I would stand and watch and ask questions of the exhibitors when they were grooming their dogs before they would go into the ring. My love for Poodles eventually got the best of me and I finally got a Standard Poodle for showing in the ring. Then.....I got another & another!!
I was hooked on showing dogs in competition. I eventually opened my own grooming shop, Paula's Poodle Parlor in Louisiana. My husband at the time was then transferred to Florida in 1986. We moved the family there and I worked for a vet's office in Deerfield Beach grooming for awhile and then my husband was transferred to West Palm Beach. His job was managing a retail store and I soon went to work helping him out at the store. The company soon moved me to managing my own store. I eventually ended up going back to grooming as that was my niche and I really missed it! So, I went to work for a Veterinarian in West Palm Beach, Dr. Dale Porcher, who later sold me his grooming business. I stayed there until 2002, when I had to have surgery on my hands due to all of the years of grooming. I sold by business and after the surgery and recovery, I went to work grooming for a pet salon in Palm Beach. This was one om my most rewarding jobs ever! I groomed for the very well to do and stars as well! It was a dream come true.
After the hurricanes in West Palm Beach in 2005 I decided to move to the West Coast of Florida and Sarasota. I opened Five Star Pet Salon in the Town Center Shopping Center in Bradenton / Lakewood Ranch, Florida. We have built up a fantastic clientèle of both local residents and winter vacationers. I have always wanted to be the best Dog Groomer possible. I look at grooming as creating art. As a groomer, I am sculpting dogs only with hair, instead of stone. I look forward to you visiting my shop.
